Customer Tip: The Top 3 Reports to Help You Recover From a Power Outage

Written by KeyTrak | July 14, 2026 at 12:30 PM

When the power goes out during severe weather, a rolling blackout, or another unexpected event, you don’t want to lose track of your keys. Here are the top three most helpful KeyTrak system reports for staying in control.

1. Tag Inventory Report

During a power outage, you may still need to locate keys. The Tag Inventory report allows you to find the correct key by showing you where each key tag is positioned in the drawer — making it an essential report for when the power goes out. We recommend regularly backing up this report to a secondary storage device so you can access it during an outage.

2. Tags Out Report

Once power is restored, one of the first questions employees often ask is, “Who has the key?” The Tags Out report (called Keys Out in KeyTrak Edge for Service) helps answer that question by listing all currently checked-out keys and the users assigned to them.

Having access to this information can reduce confusion and help employees quickly determine whether a key is in the system or in someone else's possession. It can also help administrators account for all keys.

3.  Power Cut Report

After you get operations back on track, the Power Cut report shows you who was logged in when the power failure occurred. While a power outage doesn't necessarily indicate a security issue, maintaining a clear record of system activity can help you maintain employee accountability. If the power loss is isolated to the system only rather than the whole facility, the Power Cut report provides a starting point for investigating what happened.

With these three reports, you’ll be better prepared to stay on top of your keys during and after a power outage.
