Customer Tip: Alleviate Fingerprint Reader Privacy Concerns

As technology becomes an integral part of society, people are becoming more comfortable sharing biometric data with private companies. In fact, 84% trust their employer with biometric data more than tech companies or the government. When it comes to the type of biometric identifier they’re most willing to share, 63% said they prefer fingerprints more than face, voice, hand, or iris scans. But despite biometric authentication becoming more accepted, 69% of people are worried about data breaches, and 62% have privacy concerns.

Given these statistics, you might have employees who are wary about using your KeyTrak system’s fingerprint reader. To help you navigate your team’s privacy concerns, here are three things to know about our fingerprint authentication technology:

1. KeyTrak Fingerprint Readers Don’t Capture Photos

When someone sets up their fingerprint in the KeyTrak system, the system captures physical patterns and other subdermal markers from the fingertip. A mathematical algorithm then processes these data points into a string of numbers called a template. The system does not have the ability reverse engineer the template into an image that would allow a human or other systems to interpret the finger scan data.

2. Data Is Securely Stored

Like all data stored on KeyTrak systems, finger scan templates are protected by substantial security and protection measures. We don’t export them to other applications or third parties.

3. Users Must Consent to Using Fingerprint Authentication

Both KeyTrak Guardian and Edge systems require users to complete a fingerprint enrollment process before they can use biometric login. Until then, the systems won’t collect any fingerprint data.

If you have a KeyTrak Edge system equipped with a fingerprint reader, users will be prompted to complete an acknowledgment and consent form before they start the finger scan process. To see if a specific person has acknowledged the form, navigate to the user’s Personal Information screen. Directly below the Fingerprint Enrollment field, there’s a timestamp for when the person acknowledged the form.

For a complete list of which users have consented or declined to store their fingerprint data in the KeyTrak system, run the Finger Scan Enrollment Acknowledgment report. The report shows each user’s acknowledgment date and indicates which users haven’t yet responded to the form.
